Literature Text

In the morning hours in fair Virginia,
a blazing barrel claims thirty-two lives.
These were mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers,
friends, daughters, sons, cousins, husbands, and wives.
Though the souls of the victims have risen
to join the Lord, God, in Heaven above,
there remain the friends and the families
who must mourn the loss of the ones they love.
We, as a nation, must band together
for those survivors in their hour of need.
It is our duty to help them to stand,
show them the way and help them to proceed
with life in memory of their loved ones.
We must give our sympathy, show we care
for the souls of the dead and the living.
Now, we offer the Lord a special prayer...

  Dear Lord,
Please be with these broken hearts,
and allow these wounds to mend.
Protect the spirits of the dead,
those poor souls whose lives did end.
Please be with those who remain,
help return the joy again.
Lay your healing hands on them,
bless the broken hearts. Amen.
I wrote this for the victims of the Virginia Tech massacre and their family and friends after spending an entire class watching the news about it. I hope that everyone enjoys it.
